PDRN for Acne Scars

Atrophic acne scars result from collagen loss in the dermis. PDRN injections stimulate collagen production to rebuild the scar tissue — improving scar depth, skin texture, and surface evenness over a course of treatments. Results are progressive and most pronounced after three to four sessions, often combined with microneedling.

Collagen-Based Scar Repair

Types of Acne Scars and PDRN Response

Scar TypeDescriptionPDRN Response
Rolling scarsBroad, shallow depressions with sloping edgesGood — collagen fills the shallow base
Boxcar scarsSharp-edged, defined depressionsModerate — improves base but edges remain
Ice-pick scarsDeep, narrow channelsLimited — deep fibrotic tracts respond minimally to collagen stimulation alone
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)Flat pigmentation, not textural scarringModerate with Kiara Reju (niacinamide); limited with PN alone

PDRN + Microneedling for Acne Scars

The combination of microneedling and PDRN is a well-established approach for acne scarring. Microneedling physically disrupts the fibrotic scar tissue and stimulates a wound healing response; PDRN accelerates the collagen repair phase. Delivering PDRN during or after microneedling distributes the product across the scarred area for efficient coverage.

This combination typically requires a series of three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, allowing full recovery between treatments.
